Follow these steps in order so your counselor has what they need to help you prepare for homeownership.
Start by creating your NID account and completing your housing counseling intake. This gives your counselor the information needed to better understand your goals and financial situation. You may also upload requested documents through your secure NID portal.
When creating your account, select: NID DETROIT
Learn how the homebuying process works and what you can do now to prepare for successful, sustainable homeownership.
Hybrid format — attend in person or via Zoom
Meet one-on-one with a housing counselor via Zoom to discuss your goals, financial situation, barriers to homeownership, available resources, and next steps.
Counseling sessions are held through Zoom
SCHEDULE COUNSELINGHomeownership can feel overwhelming when you don't know where to begin. NID helps you understand the process, identify potential barriers, connect with available resources, and develop a path forward.
You receive your NID Homebuyer Education Certificate after completing intake, education, and counseling in order.
Homebuyer Education
There are a lot of things to consider when purchasing a home. NID's HUD-approved counselors and homebuyer education resources are designed to help you make informed decisions throughout the homebuying process.
Hybrid classes — attend in person or join online via Zoom
Complete your intake, attend the class, and meet with your counselor to receive your NID Homebuyer Education Certificate.

One-on-One Support
Everyone's path to homeownership is different. Housing counseling provides an opportunity to review your individual situation with a counselor via Zoom and develop an action plan based on your goals.
